Alexey Ulyukaev: Russia will win forthcoming court hearing with Ukraine regarding $3 billion debt

According to Head of Ministry of Economic Development, all legal circumstances are on the side of Russia. “Our position is absolutely lawful. IMF confirmed recently that this debt was the sovereign debt, which was not subject to those agreements on restructuring of the commercial debt which Ukrainian side was implementing”, the Minister declared.

“Thus, I think that our chances to obtain favorable court settlement are close to 100%”, said Alexey Ulyukaev.

The bond debt in amount of $3 billion, which Russia bought out using the funds of NWF at the end of 2013, should be acquitted before New Year. Ukraine introduced a moratorium on this debt service, Russia responded by declaring that it would be defending its interests in court.
