Economic Development Minister Elvira Nabiullina visits the special economic zone of the industrial-production type in the Lipetsk region

Medvedev held a meeting with the managers of the largest companies - resident investors, such as Indesit International, Bekaert steel cord plant, Yokohama Russia, Ratsional and Solinkom. Participants of the meeting discussed the development potential of the Lipetsk Special Economic Zone, as well as future plans of these companies on the implementation of various projects in Russia. The meeting was attended by Elvira Nabiullina and Governor of the Lipetsk region Oleg Korolev.

During the trip, Medvedev learned in greater detail about the facilities of the special economic zone and visited the Bekaert steel cord plant in Lipetsk, the first production plant of Belgium’s Bekaert company in Russia. The plant’s products – steel cord and bead wire – will be used by both Russian and foreign companies, including Nokian and Michelin. The plant’s creation is also expected to spur the development of related production lines and prompt Russian producers and suppliers of rolled wire to boost the quality of their products.

Japan’s Yokohama is about to launch the construction of a new plant in the Lipetsk Special Economic Zone. It is likely to be Bekaert’s largest customer. Considering this, the two companies may form a major technological cluster, which may then be joined by other Russian enterprises.
