The Government summed up the results of the first year of Russia in the WTO
Alexey Ulyukaev participated in the meeting devoted to the results of the first year of Russia in the WTO and objectives for the coming period on October 29, 2013.
«Of course, a year is too short period to sum up the final results, but it can be said that perhaps the basic most unfavorable forecasts relative to membership of Russia in the World Trade Organization did not come true. Gloomy pictures, which sometimes were drawn relative to collapsing the economy and individual sectors of the economy, of course, were speculative in nature and have nothing to do with the current situation», - said the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev opening the meeting. «The main positive effect of accession of Russia to the World Trade Organization, of course, can be called a general increase in the competitiveness of our economy; though in order to ensure that these changes truly have an impact on the situation, it will take time. We made only first, but very important steps», - noted Dmitry Medvedev.
During the meeting the issues relative to implementation of the obligations of our country, risks for individual sectors including in connection with the agreements on differential reduction of import customs duties, opportunities offered by membership in the Organization were discussed. The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation noted the task on eliminating unnecessary restrictions applicable to Russia as the primary task. It was stated that Russia needs to increase presence in international platforms including new spheres for the WTO - the regulation of investments, intellectual property, state procurements.
