On December 5, 2013 at 11.00 in the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia (Ovchinnikovskaya nab, 18/1, 9th floor, Conference Hall), an international conference BRICS: Prospects for Cooperation and Development, chaired by the Deputy Minister Alexey Likhachev


Conference is organized by the Department of Asia and Africa of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, Russian Foreign Trade Academy (RFTA) and the Russian office for the support of project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The event will be attended by representatives of federal and regional executive authorities, academic community, business community, as well as the embassies of BRICS member countries in the Russian Federation. Special interest to the participation in the conference was shown by Russian companies, cooperating with partners through the BRICS Business Council on a number of joint multilateral projects.

It is assumed that determining results of four international seminars held in the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia within 2011-2013, united by a common theme of Preparing for BRICS Summit 2015: key themes for Russia. Under the thematic sessions of the conference the discussion on prospects of trade and economic and investment cooperation in BRICS will be arranged, as well as further discussion of interaction between academic community of member countries.

One of the main themes of upcoming conference is to discuss the draft of the Strategy of Economic Cooperation of BRICS (attached). The document was developed in conjunction with the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia together with Russian Foreign Trade Academy. After consultation with the partners in BRICS it is planed to submit the document for approval at BRICS VI summit in 2014, chaired by Brazil.

The strategy aims at development and elaboration of mechanisms in trade and economic and investment cooperation between BRICS countries, and increasing the interaction with third countries and regional economic communities.
