Alexey Ulyukaev about the Bali package: "We must make clear steps and complete these negotiations"
On December 5, 2013 the Minister of Economic Development Alexey Ulyukaev during the 9th Ministerial conference held on Bali (Indonesia) held bilateral meetings with his counterparts - heads of delegations of the member countries of the World Trade Organization - from Argentina, Finland, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa, Indonesia, Switzerland and Iran.
On the meetings they discussed prospects for adoption of the Bali package. The Minister of Economic Development Alexey Ulyukaev expressed hope that at the ongoing negotiations the member countries of the World Trade Organization will find a compromise solution.
- The Bali package shall be completed, especially the agreements on trade procedures and support for agriculture - it is an absolute priority, said the head of the Russian economic department, noting that "it is necessary to make clear steps and complete these negotiations."
Earlier the head of the WTO Roberto Azevedo urged ministers to come to an agreement, recalling that the talks in Geneva, that were held before the summit on Bali, did not lead to the positive result. Representatives of WTO member countries could not agree on the guiding principles and rules governing the potential deal.
According to Alexey Ulyukaev, the countries doubted the need to execute the Bali package, should take into account its importance for further development of the WTO and global trade.
Besides that, at the meetings of the Minister of Economic Development of Russian with his colleagues trade, economic and investment cooperation of the countries, cooperation within the BRICS, as well as organization of business missions were discussed.
