On the 28th of June, 2011, Elvira Nabiullina, the Minister, held a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mexico Patricia Espinosa in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation (MEDT of Russia)

The current state and prospects for bilateral trade and economic and investment cooperation, the current questions of cooperation between Russia and Mexico in the area of modernization and high technologies, as well as the issues on the goods access to the market were discussed at the meeting.

The parties have arrived at the mutual opinion the advanced areas of the Russian-Mexican collaboration are the power industry, aircraft industry and telecommunications. In particular the contract for delivery of regional planes named “Sukhoy SuperJet 100” by the Mexican airline “InterJet” met with appreciation.

The participants in the meeting laid emphasis on the availability of the significant potentials for the investment cooperation development; the completion of negotiations on the Russian-Mexican Intergovernmental Agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of capital investments will contribute to the implementation of such cooperation. Elvira Nabiullina reported on the opportunities available for Mexican investors in Russia with the primary reference to the special economic zones. The Mexican party showed interest in the attraction of Russian investments, in some segments of Mexican petroleum industry above all.

Nabiullina mentioned the importance of collaborative business events to be organized, business missions above all, to increase the level of mutual information on the possibilities for trade and investment cooperation. Russian business mission in Mexico held on the 8-10th of June, 2011, is a successful example.

The parties have agreed to keep the practice to exchange entrepreneurial delegations including associated with the visits at the top level.
